Here we outline the notion of the platform layer, and its significance.
In identifying the tech layers of the full stack we start with what in meet.coop was called 'platform space'.
The platform layer is a **commons of running code**, stretching all the way - from the FLOSS repo of source code, - thro the admins' stack(s) behind the scenes in the coop, and - into the browser running on the user's device, via - the international and local networks; - and all the associated **practices**, at all points, including what is called UX, 'user experience' or usability.
This is a pretty complex field to take responsibility for and, in itself, a real tech challenge.
Platform space remains central for our Federation, because the most helpful thing for most people and organisations much of the time is the shared-use, hosted platform-provision of digital means online or in the cloud, operated on their behalf by service providers of one kind or another. Collective provision, under collective stewadship, is where our democratic focus lives.
