The solidarity layers

Here we describe manifestly 'social' layers of the full stack: spaces of practice that are not primarily oriented to digital means, but nevertheless are digitally mediated. We refer to them collectively as 'the solidarity region' of the real full stack.

All layers in the real full stack are of course 'social' because they are **spaces** where **practices** are enacted. But the spaces we refer to here as 'solidarity' spaces/layers have social practice on various scales as their explicit intentional focus, as distnct from other layers where (practices for relating to) tech machinery or the more-than-human planet are the core focus.

The solidarity layers of the stack

Cultivating capability to resist and counter the digital coup involves much more than developing tech infrastructure The tech layers.

Crucially it pivots on under-pinning the capabilities of communities, collectives and activist formations to resist, in ways that include skilful mobilisation of digital means. We call this 'formacion'. Formación

We start from the spaces that were identified in meet.coop: the commons of **media space** that are associated with the commons of tech layers, and the commons of **venue space** that likewise are asociatd with the activities of coordinating and stewarding in the commons.

# Media space The media layer involves a **commons of digital media**: documentation, mediation, representation, including synchronous and asynchronous communication. A lot of this is in textual formats. Including all the associated practices such as editing, co-authoring and reviewing, moderating and curating. # Venue space The venue layer is a **commons of live person-to-person interaction**, where collaborators met and personal relationships are cultivated, key choices are developed, explored and confirmed, and perspectives and capabilities are surfaced, highlighted and exchanged, in dialogue. Prominently includes video meeting space but can weave intimately with synchronous or asynchronous media (chats, slides, shared annotation, pre-reading, post-documentation, etc). Venue space

# Community space The community layer is a **commons of knowing and capability** ('labour power') where stuff is communicated and organised, learned and witnessed, recorded and shared; and where people form formations and organisations to meet common needs. This is a space of peer-to-peer *knowable community* and of *formación*: capability-building and -mobilising, in ‘a dance of knowing’. Community space

# Civil society space The civil society layer is a **commons of capability** to achieve wellbeing, mutuality, pluriverse and justice. This is a space **beyond knowable community**, across regions, across communities and across generations.Civil society space
